A Short-sighted Approach to a Long term Problem

With a view to boost music sales, EMI take the initiative in removing the Digital Rights Management (DRM) mechanism on the sound tracks they sell thru' the online Music Stores including iTunes, and some other music Labels follow suit.

As he is used to, Mr. Steve Jobs makes himself appear to be the one who takes the first step in bringing forward the gigantic changes. It is not worthwhile our time to investigate the fact as no one can get patents for this and even if someone is interested in telling such a lie, it is going to harm no body.

We welcome these changes because we can foresee something more than what it is happening now. People will no longer go to CD shops to buy DRM-free music and after the CD shops close down, Internet will soon become the only way people can sell and buy music. Then, DRM music in Internet will come back and the Music Labels will once again embrace it and all other people will have to accept it.

By that time, please don't blame EMI and Apple if you are anti-DRM, because this is not really what they are planning to do, at least at this point of time. They are merely trying to take a short-sighted approach for a long term problem. But if someone told you he thought "music sold online should not be protected with DRMs" because "No DRM system was ever developed for the CD". He must have made a wrong judgement or is simply lying to you.
